Peregrines at Torrey Pines : June 13-16, 2017

June 13, 2017

After a very active day yesterday, I returned hoping to see some more beach exploration and dogfights. Instead, it was a very quiet morning. Another photographer reported two juveniles were on the beach around 8:15.

It was apparently fine, taking off again soon after.

An early morning start to try to catch the juveniles on the beach was rewarded with one taking a bath. I also saw a quick food exchange, but not a lot of activity otherwise. The juveniles appear to be spending more time somewhere across the lagoon.

(9:05a) Three of the juveniles were in the pine grove looking out over the lagoon. They all flew off together presumably after a parent with food.

(9:11a) A few minutes later, they were back in the tree. One with food was playing keep away from the others.

I arrived at about 7:30 hoping to see more swimming falcons, but was told I was too late by half an hour. Nothing of interest happened in the next 4 hours.

June 16, 2017

An excessively early morning attempt to see the juveniles swimming. Instead, when they appeared, it was usually to fly around the cliff to the northeast towards the lagoon. They returned later in the morning and one took a food exchange, and later got in a bit of a food fight.
