Peregrines at Torrey Pines State Beach : Feb 2017

February 15, 2017

The female was perched near the nest all afternoon. The male made one flyby, with the female calling to him, but he went off towards the lagoon and didn't return before sunset. Herb Knufken reported the male's band number in September - it's a 3 year old from Lassen County.

For a while, it seemed like nothing was going to happen again today. After sitting around for an hour, the female flew in the nest cave and called to the male, but he ignored her. They finally mated half an hour later, after which the male retrieved a pigeon and refused to share it.
